Pickup trucks historically have been all about power and towing, with little to note in the interior and no room for extra passengers. But in the last few decades, that has changed dramatically, as pickup trucks have become comfortable and spacious, leading the industry in certain safety innovations. Here’s why trucks are now the perfect family vehicle.
- Spacious second rows: Trucks now typically offer extended or crew cab versions that have second rows that are as spacious or even more spacious than the second rows of SUVs and sedans. This means you can fit a family of five safely and comfortably in pickup trucks.
- Innovative tech: Trucks also include innovative tech that the whole family will love, from advanced infotainment systems with smartphone compatibility to state-of-the-art audio systems to active safety features that help prevent accidents from happening.
- Towing prowess: Family vacations to the beach, mountains, or lake are all better when you can bring along your favorite toys, whether that’s your kayaks, boat, bike, trailer, jet skis, or snowmobiles. No matter what you need to haul, pickup trucks have the space and towing power to do so.
- Versatility: Trucks are great when moving furniture, whether it’s adding a new bedroom for a new kid, designing a new home office, taking your first kid to college, or moving into a bigger home.

Hyundai is working on expanding its lineup. Currently, pickup trucks are some of the most popular vehicles in the United States, which is something the brand wants to tap into. Now, we have learned that Hyundai’s pickup truck, which will be called the Santa Cruz, will reach the U.S. Market in 2020 or early 2021.
Hyundai showed off its Santa Cruz Concept back in 2015 at the North American International Auto Show. It was set for production with an original release date of late 2018. However, after some personnel changes, the release date was pushed back to 2020.
The new truck will target what Hyundai calls “urban adventurers”: those who don’t need a full-size truck for daily work purposes but want something more capable, compact, and fashionable than a large SUV.
The new Hyundai truck is poised to capture a part of the ever-growing pickup market here in the United States. However, because of its smaller size, it will offer hopeful truck owners a more affordable way to get there. In addition, it could have unique features like the bed extender option that was part of the original concept. Hyundai has not released any specifics about the features or capabilities of the future production model, though, but we at Hyundai of Longview are eagerly awaiting the release of official details.
Are you excited about the idea of a pickup truck by Hyundai?
Change is on the horizon for some of the vehicles in the Hyundai lineup. Here’s a preview of what we can look forward to for 2019.
Updated 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid
The Hyundai Ioniq is available as a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, or a fully electric vehicle. This model year will bring standard automatic emergency braking to the affordable Hybrid SEL trim, as well as new and improved voice recognition technology.
Updated 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2019 Sante Fe takes the place of the Santa Fe Sport, which means that the new Santa Fe has two rows with seating for five people. A redesigned exterior with standard LED headlamps brings added visibility to the driver. The old full-size Santa Fe will now be called the Santa Fe XL.
2019 Hyundai Elantra Enters 6th Model Year
The new 2019 Hyundai Elantra boasts major changes to its exterior design, starting with the front end. Triangular headlights and LED projectors make a bold first impression. An updated rear bumper and three wheel options also make a major impact on the new look. The interior also receives updates, including a new infotainment system, making this compact car a compelling option.

Hyundai has always been known for offering top-notch value in its vehicles. Now, the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s value has increase for the new year with the addition of some new standard features – and a $500 starting price reduction.
For the 2018 model year, you will notice a few changes to the Sonata Hybrid. Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert now comes standard, while other features like Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist are now available.
Other available features include additional USB charging ports, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, and bi-function LED headlights. The Limited trim also now comes with a panoramic sunroof.
One of the most notable changes, though – beyond the hybrid’s value – is its redesign. Its front fascia has new sheet metal that has allowed the Sonata Hybrid to incorporate the new Hyundai signature cascading grille, while the rear end now mirrors a sleeker, more coupe-like silhouette. The alloy wheels have also been redesigned, along with its distinctive head- and taillights.
Inside, an updated center stack and instrument cluster is more modern, while the steering wheel has a sportier look thanks to its three-spoke, leather-wrapped design.
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is now available at dealerships across the nation, including Hyundai of Longview.
In the automotive world, you typically don’t find a combination of a rugged vehicle ready for an active lifestyle and a vehicle that is eco-friendly – until now. Last month, Hyundai introduced the all-new 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric, a brand-new electric crossover that can serve as a vehicle for adventures.
Similar to the current gasoline-powered model, the Kona Electric puts out a sculpted, athletic look. Its front fascia has changed, though, with a closed grille that hints at the model’s eco-friendly powertrain. This powertrain will allow the Kona Electric to receive a segment-leading 250-mile estimated range, while putting out 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque.
With this type of range and power, this eco-friendly crossover will appeal to those consumers who are both active and eco-conscious. “Our new Kona Electric crossover is a stylish and efficient compact CUV, tailored to the needs of customers who pursue eco-focused active lifestyles requiring generous range,” explained Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate, and Digital Planning for Hyundai Motor America.
Consumers will also find that each model comes standard with a floating touchscreen, which gives you access to Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, and Hyundai’s Smart Sense suite of safety technologies.
The 2019 Kona Electric is not yet available, but here at Hyundai of Longview, we can’t wait to see it in person!
Car and Driver magazine is considered one of the most trusted names in automotive journalism, which is why it comes as a great honor that not one, but two Hyundai models have been named Car and Driver’s Editor’s Choice award winners.

We have learned that Hyundai and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will be working together to make advancements in hydrogen engine technology. Vehicles powered by hydrogen are usually referred to as fuel-cell vehicles and Hyundai currently sells the Tucson Fuel Cell.
Late last year, at a press conference at the Alfa Romeo Museum, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne stated, “There is the potential of a technical partnership with Hyundai, which already supplies some components and transmissions for the U.S. Let’s see if we find a deal to develop transmissions and hydrogen.”
At Hyundai of Longview, we think car companies working together is a great idea. Sharing ideas and innovations is one of the best ways to advance technology in our industry. And, focusing on hydrogen fuel cells can help make our world a cleaner place to live in.
Fuel cell vehicles are similar to regular cars in that they have an engine and require fuel. However, hydrogen is a much cleaner energy source as it only emits water vapor. In addition, it is one of the most abundant resources on our planet. A couple downsides to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are the lack of refueling stations and the cost of the technology.
Thanks to the new partnership between Hyundai and FCA, the green future of mobility will come even sooner.
